University of Nebraska Kearney issued the following announcement on Mar. 13.
The University of Nebraska at Kearney wrestling team received a police escort as it returned to Kearney Sunday evening after winning the NCAA Division II National Championship in St. Louis, Missouri. Loper fans greeted the team, which was given a key to the city by Kearney Mayor Stan Clouse during a welcome party inside the Health and Sports Center. UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen, Director of Athletics Marc Bauer, Head Coach Dalton Jensen and each member of the team spoke at the event.
