Signed into proclamation in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy Peace Officer Memorial Day is designated as May 15th and the week that it occurs each year is known as Police Week.
The Peace Officer Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. was dedicated in October 1991, and now has over 23,000 names etched into the memorial.
