Sorensen to Jump at U.S. Track Championships

Brayden sorensen 1

Kearney redshirt sophomore Brayden Sorensen will compete in the 2022 Toyota USATF (USA Track & Field) Outdoor Championships Sunday (June 26th) in Eugene, Oreg.

The three-time All-American is the first Loper to qualify for this meet since current assistant coach Dane Tobey finished 14th in the shot put in 2010.

The qualification window ran from June 1, 2021 to June 12, 2022; an athlete had to reach the entry standard in their respective event or have the next best time/mark.

One of three non-Division I competitors in the 15-person field, Sorensen qualified for this prestigious trip thanks to clearing 7-0.50 (2.15 meters) at Wichita State's KT Woodman Classic in early April. His outdoor season also included three other meets where he reached at least 6-10; Sorensen finished 17th at the NCAA Championships in May while jumping at less than 100 percent.

Now healthier, he'll aim to have a good showing in Oregon with the top finishers in each event making "Team USTAF" and taking part in the 2022 World Athletics Championships July 15-24 in Eugene. USTAF can enter up to four competitors in each individual event.

The men's high jump starts at 2:25 p.m. Central and can be viewed at https://www.usatf.tv/
