On Friday, July 22, 2022 at approximately 11:55 a.m. an officer with the Kearney Police Department stopped a vehicle for speeding at 25th Street and 5th Avenue. A Kearney Police K9 unit was deployed and alerted to the presence of the odor of drugs in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted and officers discovered illegal drugs inside the vehicle.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Austin Harris, a 38-year-old Kearney resident was subsequently arrested for: 1) §28-416(1)(a)(10)(b) Class 1C Felony: Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute - Methamphetamine 28-139 grams, 2) §28-416(1)(a) Class IIA Felony, Distribution of a controlled substance - Psilocybin; 3) §28-416-17 Class IV Felony, Prohibited Acts.
As a result of the traffic stop, a search warrant was served on Austin Harris’s Kearney residence. Additional drug charges are pending as a result of drugs and drug related items discovered following the completion of the investigation.
