MCC’s Cayden Wynne signs on to golf next year at Bellevue

Ball

McCook Community College sophomore golfer Cayden Wynne has signed a letter of intent to golf at Bellevue University next year.

"Bellevue is a great school and has a terrific golf program that is always among the topped ranked teams in NAIA," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop.

The Bruins finished seventh place in the nation last season under Coach Rob Brown, in his 11th season leading the Nebraska team. The Bruins qualified for the national tournament eight times in the nine years the tournament was held.

"Cayden is very talented and has the capability to be a great player for Coach Brown and I couldn't be happier for him." Loop said.

Wynne, a Lincoln Southwest graduate, is currently in sixth place in the Region IX standings among individuals through the six fall tournaments. He earned 16 standings points, placing in three fall tournaments. At Northeastern Junior College on Sept. 23, he finished in third place and picked up eight points. He added four points each at the Central Wyoming tournament Sept. 9 and four points at the final meet of the fall Oct. 7 in Lamar, Colo. He finished in sixth place in both of those tournaments.

He has a 74.7 scoring average and posted a season-low 67 in the first-round of the NJC invite Sept. 23. He finished that tournament with a 3-under par 140, his career best.

As a freshman he earned seven standings points during the fall season and came back strong in the spring with 18 points earning 25 total points for the year and helping lead the team to its fourth trip in five years to the NJCAA National Tournament.

MCC leads all Region IX teams with 54 standings points at the mid-way point of the season, which resumes March 23 at Lamar, Colo. MCC leads Eastern Wyoming by three points and three other teams by 31 points: Otero Junior College, Northeastern Junior College and Central Wyoming.

Wynne is the third MCC sophomore golfer to sign on to a four-year school, joining Ethan Gough who committed to Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. (an NCAA D2 school), and Spencer Wishon, who committed last week to Midland University, an NAIA school in Fremont.
