Beginning this month, ordinances passed by the Hastings City Council will be published exclusively on the City of Hastings website.

Nebraska Revised Statute 17-613 states, “All ordinances of a general nature shall, before they take effect, be published, within fifteen days after they are passed, (1) in a legal newspaper in or of general circulation in such city or village, or (2) by publishing the same in book, pamphlet, or electronic form.

Shifting to online publication provides several advantages:

  • Entire ordinances can be published, rather than abbreviated pamphlet versions.
  • Ordinances will be available for review the day following council approval and the mayor’s execution of the document.
  • The cost for publication in the newspaper can be eliminated.
