The Hastings College women's basketball team ended its season on a high note by routing Northwestern 58-40 on Saturday afternoon inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

The Lady Broncos came out of the gates flying as Miriam Miller got back-to-back layups to put Hastings in front at 6-4. Then Miller pulled down an offensive rebound that led to a Katharine Hamburger three from the top of the key to go up 9-4. The lead grew to eight following a Mariyah Avila free throw and another driving layup from Miller. Then Miller got a steal and fed the ball forward to Carley Leners for the easy two as Hastings now led 14-4 before the Raiders finally ended the run with a three.

Hastings quickly moved the lead back to double digits with a Kiernan Paulk layup followed by an and one from Miller to go up 19-7.

Northwestern struggled from the floor in its previous game scoring just 17 first half points against No. 4 Dordt which included just one second quarter point. There offense continued to struggle this afternoon as Hastings would take full advantage. The lead would hold strong and Miller would end the half with back-to-back layups as Hastings held a 32-18 lead at halftime.

The lead would grow to as many as 23 points before Hastings settled for the 58-40 win. The 40 points is a season low for a Hastings' opponent and you have to go back to 2017-18 for the last time a team scored less than 40 points when Hastings William Penn to 22, Ottawa to 39, Haskell to 41, Mount Marty to 40, Dakota State to 32 and Oglala Lakota to 26 points.

Miller had her best game as a basketball player here at Hastings scoring a career high 20 points, stole Northwestern's rock a career high eight times while pulling down five boards and dishing out five assists. Avila finished with eight points along with Leners while Hamburger and Paulk each finished with six points.

The Raiders really struggled from the floor shooting just 25.4 percent (15-for-59) while HC shot 40.7 percent (22-for-54). Rebounds went in the Raiders favor at 43-to-37 but points in the paint favored Hastings 26-to-16.

Hastings finishes the season 11-17 (7-14)
