Emily Johnson led the Knights with 14 points, while Jada Grigsby dished out seven assists, as North Platte dominated the Union College Warriors 82-22 on Sunday afternoon.
Johnson came off the bench in just her second game of the season to knock down 6-of-7 shots from the field. Mariah Gardner (14), Fumnanya Ijeh (13), Vanessa Wood, (12) and Samantha Riggles (12) rounded out all North Platte scorers in double figures.
A low scoring opening quarter kept teams hungry to settle into an offensive rhythm. Gardner helped the Knights extend their lead to 6-2, before the Warriors responded to knot the game up with 2:12 to play.
Johnson added her name to the scoring column by grabbing the offensive rebound and finishing off the second chance opportunity for her first points of her collegiate career. Noel Warrior extended the Knights lead to five by connecting from beyond the arc, before the Warriors trimmed the deficit to three by the end of the opening quarter.
The Knights lead ballooned in the opening minutes of the second period, as an early run pushed the margin to 26-10 after a layup by Wood. North Platte kept their momentum rolling for the remainder of the period to take a 30-15 lead into the halftime break.
North Platte continued to roll in the final twenty minutes, while limiting the Warriors to just seven points in the second half to snap their five-game losing streak.
The Knights controlled the boards, 40-12, while forcing 17 turnovers in the matchup.
North Platte (7-19) will continue with regular season action on Thursday, Feb. 23 against Northeastern Junior College. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium. North Platte defeated the Plainswomen in their previous meeting 73-67 back on Jan. 31.
