The Hastings College softball team was on the opposite end of run rules on Saturday by first getting beat 8-0 to Science and Arts (Okla.) and then turned around and defeated Bethel (Kan.) 8-0 in the nightcap to finish the Red Dirt Classic 2-2.

Not much went right in game one as Hastings was not hit by the Drovers.

Hastings bounced right back in game two against the Threshers and got the bats going early loading the bases in the first. Lexie Mudloff hit a sac fly to right which plated Sydney Schelkopf for the early 1-0 lead.

Kyleigh Boever was again on point keeping the Thresher offense in check as the Lady Broncos went back to work in the third.

Schelkopf led the inning off with a single to short and would end up on second as the Thresher defense struggled to control the ball. After a couple of lineouts, Katyn Kappler singled to left which brought home Schelkopf to make it 2-0.

Hastings would really put the game on ice in the fourth as Isabel Tanabe started the inning with a single. Lauren Schneider then double to left to plate Tanabe. Schelkopf then singled through the hole at short to bring home Schneider to make it 4-0. The inning stayed alive when Macie Mays reached on an error that allowed Schelkopf to score. Then Mudloff ripped a double to center to score mays followed by a Kappler single that allowed Mudloff to score to make it 7-0. Hastings added one more in the fifth and then Boever slammed the door as Hastings won the game 8-0 in five innings.

Schelkopf led the way by going 3-for-3 with a RBI and three runs scored. Tanabe also went 3-for-3 with a run scored. Kappler went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Boever went 5.0 innings giving up no runs on just four hits while striking out six.

Hastings will be back in action Saturday Mar. 11 hitting the road to take on Benedictine in a doubleheader with first pitch set for 1:00 pm in Atchison, KS.
