The city continues to work with contractor Van Kirk Bros., to ensure the downtown water main project is completed and pavement is restored to normal.

The project was progressing until a pause for Downtown Do the Brew on April 29. With that halt, the Van Kirk crew left town for another project and only recently returned.

There are a handful of water services still to install on the block of First Street, between Lincoln and Hastings avenues. The water main running along St. Joseph Avenue still needs to be completed as well.

With the services, water main, flushing, testing and tie-ins that remain, the project will most likely be completed around the middle of July. City staff will be meeting with the contractor weekly to discuss progress and sequence of construction for finishing.

The new water main on St. Joseph Avenue will extend between First and Second streets and will be located on the east side of the street.  A hole will likely be excavated at Second Street and probably at First Street too.

There will be a loss of some parking stalls temporarily on the east side of St. Joseph Avenue. This work should only be one to two weeks barring unforeseen complications.

This project is separate from the Community Development Block Grant curb and ramp work within a four-block radius of the City Block parking lot.

Except for a small area near the southeast corner of Third Street and Denver Avenue, the sidewalk project was completed three to four weeks ago.
