Washington, D.C. – Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) has issued a response to President Joe Biden's State of the Union Address, highlighting his concerns and proposed solutions to address the current state of affairs in the country.

In his statement, Rep. Smith expressed disappointment with President Biden's approach, stating, “Listening to tonight’s State of the Union address, like many Nebraskans, I wanted to hear President Biden correct course on his failed policies weakening border security, perpetuating inflation, and neglecting trade interests. Rather than embracing commonsense policies to bring us together, he continued down an extreme path, distant from the views and struggles of most Americans."

Reflecting on the economic situation under President Biden's leadership, Rep. Smith pointed out the increase in inflation and the lack of effective border security measures, emphasizing, “When President Biden took office, inflation was at 1.4 percent, and successful border security strategies were in place. Four years later, it’s plain to see Joe Biden has chosen a far more divisive path than his 2020 candidacy led voters to believe."

The congressman also criticized President Biden's stance on international issues, mentioning the lack of response to Mexico's ban on American-grown corn, the continued focus on reducing American energy production, and the burden of overregulation imposed by the EPA.

Despite his concerns, Rep. Smith expressed determination to advocate for alternative policies, stating, “I know the American people are eager for solutions. I will fight hard against the Biden administration’s out-of-touch policies such as EV mandates, misguided tax proposals threatening to make housing shortages worse, and the IRS’ 'Babysitter Tax' targeting petty transactions. Together we can rise above our challenges, restore American leadership, and unleash growth and prosperity."

Rep. Adrian Smith's response underscores the ongoing political debate and the differing perspectives on the best course of action for the country's future.
