Congressman Adrian Smith has issued a statement following the death of John Gottschalk, former owner of the Sidney Telegraph and mayor of Sidney, Nebraska. Gottschalk also served as CEO of the Omaha World-Herald.
In his statement, Congressman Smith highlighted Gottschalk's significant contributions to Nebraska through his work in journalism, public service, philanthropy, community development, and volunteerism. Smith remarked on Gottschalk's dedication to giving back to his community and maintaining his connection to his small-town origins.
"Few have had the level of impact on the state of Nebraska that the life and legacy of John Gottschalk has," said Smith. "His committed leadership in journalism, public service, philanthropy, community development, and volunteerism is the fruit of a great American success story. He never forgot his small-town roots and relentlessly sought ways to pay it forward."
Smith extended condolences to Gottschalk's wife Carmen and their family.
