Congressman Adrian Smith, alongside Nebraska House delegation colleagues Congressmen Mike Flood and Don Bacon, has extended an invitation to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Department of Health and Human Services Secretary-Designee. The invitation is for Kennedy to visit Nebraska to observe the state's food production capabilities and rural health care system.
In a letter addressed to Kennedy, the congressmen congratulated him on his expected nomination by President-Elect Trump. They expressed their desire for him to see how HHS agencies impact rural America and the nation's food supply firsthand.
The letter highlighted Nebraska's significant role in agriculture, describing it as "the lifeblood of Nebraska." It noted that the state produces various agricultural products such as beef, pork, poultry, grains, and edible beans across its ninety-three counties. The congressmen emphasized Nebraska's leadership in agricultural innovation and its ability to produce high-quality food efficiently.
They also addressed challenges faced by rural communities in accessing quality health care due to small populations and remote locations. The letter pointed out that Nebraska's Critical Access Hospitals and Rural Health Clinics must remain financially sound and innovative to meet these needs.
The congressmen concluded by inviting Kennedy to visit Nebraska at his earliest convenience to witness both its agricultural practices and unique rural health care needs. They stressed the importance of ensuring federal policy does not overlook rural America.
