In his tweet, he stated: "Steps to realign our trade relationship with China, such as this weekend’s talks in Geneva, are encouraging. Nevertheless, as the CCP seeks to expand its own influence, the United States cannot sit idly by."

Later that day, Rep. Smith highlighted his recent conversation with BBC News concerning the Trump administration's trade negotiations involving the UK and China. Adrian Smith was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1970 and currently resides in Gering. He graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 1993 with a BA degree.
