On May 12, 2025, Rep. Smith expressed optimism regarding ongoing trade discussions with China in Geneva. He emphasized the importance of these talks while cautioning against complacency in the face of China's efforts to expand its influence globally. In his tweet, he stated: "Steps to realign our trade relationship with China, such as this weekend’s talks in Geneva, are encouraging. Nevertheless, as the CCP seeks to expand its own influence, the United States cannot sit idly by."

Later that day, Rep. Smith highlighted his recent conversation with BBC News concerning the Trump administration's trade negotiations involving the UK and China. He underscored the necessity for enhancing foreign market access for American producers: "ICYMI: On Friday I spoke with @BBCNews on the Trump admin's trade negotiations with the UK and China and the need to increase foreign market access for American producers."

Adrian Smith was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1970 and currently resides in Gering. He graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 1993 with a BA degree.
