Smith, born in Scottsbluff and a graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, highlighted various aspects of the state's agricultural sector.
On May 19, 2025, Smith tweeted about the start of his Nebraska tour with Secretary Rollins and Governor Pillen at Cargill’s complex in Blair. He stated: "Great to kick-off today's Nebraska tour with @USDA @SecRollins and @TeamPillen at @Cargill’s 650-acre complex in Blair! From biofuels to the food industry to material manufacturing, innovation has enabled #NE03 producers to diversify agriculture outputs and strengthen our state’s".
Later that day, he posted another tweet emphasizing the significance of welcoming Secretary Rollins alongside Governor Pillen. He remarked on showcasing Nebraska's agricultural prowess: "Welcoming Secretary Rollins to Nebraska alongside Governor Pillen provided a tremendous opportunity to showcase Nebraska’s world-leading livestock, crop, and biofuels producers. As we mark 163 years since the signing of the Homestead Act, agriculture remains the economic driver".
On May 20, Smith shared additional photos from what he termed as "Farmers First" tour with Secretary Rollins and Governor Pillen. In his tweet he noted: "Sharing some additional photos from yesterday’s Farmers First tour with @SecRollins and @TeamPillen. Our nation is fortunate to have such an outstanding advocate for the interests of American producers heading @USDA."
