This week in South Central Nebraska history.

Died September 11, 2021, NFL center from Lexington, Nebraska

Henry Michael Tingelhoff, born in Lexington, Nebraska, passed away in 2021. He played center for the Minnesota Vikings from 1962 to 1978. Tingelhoff started 240 consecutive games and appeared in four Super Bowls. He was named first-team All-NFL seven times and selected to six Pro Bowls. His number 53 was retired by the Vikings. Tingelhoff was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015. He grew up on a farm in Lexington and attended Lexington High School before playing college football at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Tingelhoff is remembered in Lexington for his professional football career and dedication. He died from complications of Parkinson’s disease and dementia. Throughout his life, he maintained ties to his hometown and the state of Nebraska.
