The Hastings College women's basketball team battled but just couldn't come up with enough offense losing to Jamestown 68-62 on Saturday afternoon inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

In the first quarter, Jamestown was able to build a six point lead but the Lady Broncos would have an answer with a Carley Leners free throw followed by a layup to make it 19-16. Then with just 0.8 seconds on the clock, Hastings ran a perfect back door pick that opened up Miriam Miller for the easy layup at the buzzer to trail 19-18 after one quarter of action.

Jamestown would again build a six point lead but HC would not go down without a fight clawing its way back. Late in the second quarter, Kia Tower connected on a three to make it 33-28 but HC countered with a Mariyah Avila three to make it 36-31 with :54 left to go in the first half. The Jimmies got a three to go from Sarah Lenz but Avila came right back hitting one from deep just before the buzzer as Hastings trailed 36-34 at the break.

After struggling a bit in the third quarter, Hastings would again not let the game get away just yet getting a three from Allison Bauer to start the fourth to make it 55-50. Then two Kiernan Paulk free throws made it 55-52 with 8:17 to go. But the Jimmies had a mini run in themselves going off for seven straight points and the Lady Broncos eventually fell 68-62.

Avila led the way for Hastings scoring 14 points all of which came in the first half as she was 5-for-13 from the floor and 4-for-9 from downtown. Bauer added 11 points while Alyssa Baker finished with 10 points. Leners added nine points off the bench and Paulk finished with seven.

Hastings finished the game shooting 37.5 percent (21-for-56) while Jamestown shot 42.1 percent (24-for-57). Rebounding favored the Jimmies 39-to-32 and they also had 17 assists compared to just 10 for HC.
