Smith Commends Third District Wildfire Responders on House Floor

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) took to the floor of the House of Representatives to commend the responders to the recent wildfires in the Third District of Nebraska.

In his address, Smith expressed his condolences to those affected by the Betty's Way and Lariat wildfires and recognized the exceptional efforts of emergency personnel in the region. He highlighted the devastating impact of the Central Nebraska wildfires, which consumed over 70,000 acres in just 24 hours across multiple counties.

Despite the destruction caused by the fires, Smith praised the swift and courageous response of the responders, which led to the successful evacuation of residents and livestock without any loss of life. He specifically acknowledged the collaboration of various groups, including emergency personnel, pilots, and over 50 local and volunteer fire departments, in containing the blaze.

One of the key sentiments expressed during the response was by the Red Willow Rural Fire Department, who emphasized the crucial support received from the local community, stating, "We couldn't do what we do without our area farmers and ranchers."

Smith also extended his gratitude to the volunteers and businesses in the Third District who contributed to the recovery efforts. He highlighted the generosity displayed by local businesses donating supplies and engaging in fundraising activities to support those affected by the wildfires. Smith emphasized how the unity and support shown by Nebraskans in times of crisis exemplify the spirit of community and neighborly care in the region.

In conclusion, Congressman Smith ended his remarks by expressing his gratitude and yielding back to the Speaker, stating, "Thank you, Mr. Speaker, I yield back."
